Meet the Precor Master Coaches: Elsa Monterd Meneses

I’m from Mexico. I’ve practiced ballet, jazz and tap for 16 years, and all of my life I´ve explored movements, the body and music! I have a B.S in Psychology and am a Master Trainer in Pilates and Functional Training. For the past 4 years, I have been managing the education department for different brands in my country. This has provided me with opportunities to travel to the USA and Europe, always with the support of my family. I love pets – my dog is the owner of my complete heart.

Precor has more than 50 Master Coaches in 20 countries around the world. These Master Coaches deliver workshops on Precor equipment, develop curriculum for new onsite training courses, contribute to our blogs, and provide premier coaching at tradeshows and events. Our “Meet the Precor Master Coaches” blog series highlights different members of our global team, giving you the chance to get to know them. Enjoy!

What got you into fitness?

My first contact with a physical discipline was when I was 9 and started ballet classes. Since then my life has revolved around putting my body in motion.

How many years have you been involved in the fitness industry?

I´ve been involved in this industry for 21 years in diverse areas.

What fitness certifications do you hold?

I’m a specialist teaching Pilates method certified by Pilates Center of Las Vegas with a mentorship, certified in stability ball, a Master Trainer with ability training certified in Italy, and some degrees in the Cuban ballet technique.

Why did you want to be a Precor Master Coach?

Based on my experience Precor has very competitive products to offer those in need of health improvement, safety movements and fun. The most important reason is that Precor holds a high value and delivers high quality education to trainers.

What is your favorite piece of Precor equipment and why?

The AMT! This piece of equipment brings together health, fitness and fun. The programs that I can teach to my clients on this equipment will help me keep them engaged and show results. If my clients feel better, this makes me feel great.

What is your favorite move to do on Queenax equipment?

Definitely… squats on the super functional. I can activate deep muscles, and it’s simply amazing! After this challenging squat, a suspended split with the 4D Pro accessory is the best recovery.

What’s your favorite personal fitness story or memory?

The best memory I have was teaching children aged 3-5 years. The energy they have and spontaneity made me a more perceptive and creative coach. Plus my beginnings as a coach were with children. They will always hold a special place in my heart.

Tell us about a time you were able to help a client reach and/or exceed his or her fitness goals.

I rehabilitated and trained a top athlete named Rodolfo. He’s a tennis player and at that time he was 14 years old. Due to his training, he had a muscle imbalance in his three planes, and slight scoliosis. He was exhausted, with pains in his knees and elbow, thus he did not play at 100%. He was overtraining.

I began by restructuring his planned weekly activities and gave him proper breaks, followed by dynamic and static stretches, strengthening one-by-one the areas of his body to balance his muscles. Pilates was a wonderful technique for him because he also corrected his posture and found his center to become more agile. We combined his workout regime with strength equipment and free weights.

After eight weeks Rodolfo began to not feel pain in his joints. He was energetic, and more focused on the games and winning. A few months later he managed to enter a boarding school for tennis players looking for the opportunity to turn professional. Soon I was called by the school to give the coaches a class, and Rodolfo’s dad talked to them about the process and training we had done. Rodolfo achieved his goals by knowing and listening to his body.

What’s your favorite fitness mantra?

“You are your limit.”

What’s your favorite movie?

Black Swan – Psychology and ballet, my passions together.

Give us a random fun fact about yourself!

One time I went to a gym to teach some fitness challenges. In the fitness room there were 15 strong trainers (men) and me. We had to keep in a squat position with our backs on the wall for as long as possible. At the end of the activity, only I was still with my back on the wall, and the faces of all the trainers were with jaws dropped because some of them were training for the Spartan race. I not only won the challenge, but received a lot of questions about how I was training myself!
