Precor facility earns LEED® CI Gold certification

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

One of 16 organizations in North Carolina to receive this status

WOODINVILLE, WA – Precor is proud to announce that its new Guilford County, North Carolina strength facility earned LEED CI Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Leadership in Energy and Efficient Design (LEED) is the nation’s premier program for design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. It is the recognized system for certifying green interiors that promote healthy, productive places to work, are less costly to operate and maintain, and have a reduced environmental footprint.

“This distinguished award is the result of more than 18 months of preparing, planning, and execution by our developers, architects, contractors, and Precor,” said Paul Byrne, Precor President. “Together we were able to deliver this project on time and under budget.”

The process for obtaining LEED certification is based on the accumulation of points in five areas: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environment quality. Some of the steps Precor took to achieve gold certification included:

  • Using low flow fixtures to reduce water consumption by 42%
  • 38% reduction in connected lighting power density
  • 90% of equipment and appliances installed have Energy Star rating
  • Project recycled or diverted 80% of on-site generated construction waste from landfills
  • High efficiency HVAC units for heating and cooling
  • CO2 monitors in the space to detect low levels and automatically provide more fresh air to occupants when necessary via the HVAC system
  • Low-emission paints, adhesives, flooring and furniture

In addition to LEED CI Gold, Precor manufacturing processes continue to lead the way in social responsibility. The manufacturing plant high bay lighting fixtures contain T5HO fluorescent bulbs, which results in increased energy efficiency and better overall lighting. We recycle corrugated paper, wood pallets, aluminum shavings, and steel and metal scraps.

More than a manufacturing facility, the plant also serves as a beautiful showroom for the full line of Precor commercial and consumer equipment provides a convenient meeting place for customers and sales reps, and offers distribution advantages to the East Coast and Europe over our other facilities.
