Precor® and DIRECTV Make Fitness Fun With HDTV-enabled Treadmills
Hospitality and other fitness operators promote facility use and longer workouts by extending 100+ premium quality HD channels to exercisers
Woodinville, WA and Las Vegas, NV — 2014 International CES (South Hall 2 Booth #26923) January 7, 2014 — Precor®, creator of the first cushioned treadmill, today announced DIRECTV-enabled cardio equipment with more than 100 HD channels.
Precor and DIRECTV are enabling fitness operators and hotels to provide exercisers with an expansive number of entertainment options, including their favorite programs in HD, as they work out on cardio equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and Adaptive Motion Trainers® (AMTs®). Precor is the only fitness equipment manufacturer to offer an integrated digital media experience through DIRECTV, bringing CNN, Comedy Central, EPSN, Food Network, HGTV and other HD channels directly to the consoles of exercise equipment.
“Gone are the days of mounting a couple TVs on the wall to serve a dozen different exercisers,” said Brent Brooks, Precor Vice President of Networked Fitness. “Hotels and lodging facilities have found that providing a personal screen with high quality programming is key to increasing fitness facility use and satisfaction. By letting exercisers select from more than 100+ HD channels, operators can help guests reach the end of their workouts faster; no more suffering through limited channel selection and subpar video quality.”
“Consumers can go from the couch to their local fitness facility and enjoy the same great programming and wide selection of HD channels,” said Michael Wittrock, senior vice president of Sales and Distribution, DIRECTV. “Our integration with Precor will completely change both the viewing and exercise experience when they hop on a treadmill or elliptical trainer. Keeping that New Year’s resolution about working out more just got a lot easier.”
Small gym facilities and hospitality-run fitness centers in particular have unique challenges in staying atop the latest entertainment programming trends. One of the top hurdles has been offering personal, high quality entertainment, due to the cost and complication of encrypting TV signals. With the new STB Media Adapter from Precor, hospitality and lodging and other fitness facility owners can quickly and easily extend HD channels to exercisers, promoting longer, more enjoyable and more frequent workouts.
The STB Media Adapter supports a direct HDMI connection to P80 consoles on Precor equipment. Its “plug and play” decryption capabilities enable hospitality operators to offer the same HD programming available in-room, right on cardio equipment screens. This integration delivers exceptional picture quality at a minimal expense and without the need for complicated hardware.
The new Precor P80 HDMI connection provides the highest quality and globally consistent delivery mechanism of digital media content. In the Japanese market, the P80 Media Adapter eliminates the need to build a head-end to convert ISDB-T, saving time and resources.
