Building and developing the new Haselwood Family YMCA was more than just creating a state-of-the-art fitness facility. They wanted it to be a hub for the community and have a positive impact on the residents of Silverdale, WA. The $22 million, environmentally friendly facility encourages healthy living in the community and inspires residents to be healthy in body, mind and spirit. The YMCA sought the help of Precor because of their long-standing history of being a trustworthy and caring YMCA partner.
The challenges of the Haselwood YMCA were multifaceted. Not only did they want to attract new members, but also build a community within the YMCA. Here are two of the challenges they faced:
- The YMCA wanted to attract Silverdale residents to the facility with the sense that their investment in a membership would provide more than just a fitness experience, but rather the feeling of joining a community that focuses on mind, body and spirit.
- While the new facility was aimed to be more than a gym experience, the YMCA wanted to also provide a state-of-the-art workout experience for everyone, regardless of fitness level.
In order to make the Haselwood YMCA a state-of-the-art facility, the staff decided to install state-of-the-art Precor equipment, including the cardio 880 series equipment such as the EFX® 885, TRM® 885 and the Adaptive Motion Trainer® 885. Each piece was equipped with the Precor pioneering P80 touch screen consoles.
To take the member experience a step further they installed Preva, the Precor networked fitness solution. This technology personalized the workout experience for their members. The consoles provide users with the capability to connect to a library of workout and equipment tutorials, video and music channels as well as cable TV to further personalize their workout.
By working in partnership with Precor, the Haselwood YMCA was able to uphold their brand values by working with a vendor that is socially responsible and environmentally friendly. They also saw membership increase and member retention increase. The Haselwood YMCA created a state-of-the-art fitness center that was flexible enough to accommodate the workout needs of the serious athlete to the recreational user.
Haselwood Executive Director, Geoff Ball, couldn’t be more pleased, saying, ‘the fitness floors are busy and humming with the sounds of cardio and strength training. This YMCA is changing lives—today, and every day.”
