Club Northwest is a 6,000 sq. ft. multi-purpose facility located in Grants Pass, Oregon. They have been open for 20 years, and each year, have been voted the region’s favorite health club and best spa. They strive to provide good wellness experiences to every member and guest. Located in a very small suburban area, Club Northwest serves a wide 35,000 member base, with some members driving up to an hour to get to the club.
Club Northwest is known for including a variety of group programs in their membership and are geared toward different member levels and ages. They also offer personal training, group training, a kid zone, and a pool.
One of Club Northwest’s greatest challenges is differentiating their club from competitors in the area. Catering to members of all ages and various exercise experiences, it was essential for them to offer something no other facility has. Jesse Sallas, Fitness Manager at Club Northwest, worked with John Nishimoto, Precor Key Account Manager, to help find the best solution to provide his facility, staff, and members an experience that would help them stand out. Sallas saw Queenax functional fitness highlighted in a magazine, and after working with John, he knew that it would be a perfect option for his facility.
The second challenge Club Northwest faced was having a limited space for group training. They had an area that had been originally designated for group exercise. However, it was extremely congested. Sallas knew this area had potential and he was determined to maximize this space.
Sallas and Nishimoto collaborated and installed a Queenax X3 500 Bridge. After re-evaluating the best space to have group training, Sallas installed the Queenax in its own dedicated area. This area has now become a functional training zone that is private and can only be accessed by members who pay a fee for group training or are doing personal training. To further differentiate this area, Sallas had turf, power racks, free weights, and other functional equipment pieces installed.
Since installing Queenax, Sallas and team have definitely seen an increase in their group training programs as well as PT sales. With Queenax, Club Northwest is able to create programs that reach across their broad member base. They are able to create professional experiences and promote group training that is a cut above their competitors. Sallas charges $75 a month for attending two classes a week and $100 a month for three classes a week. Since they implemented this functional fitness area, Club Northwest has seen a 27% increase in personal training revenue sales and group training sign-ups. When Queenax was first installed, they ran four to five classes a week with eight people attending on average. Today, they run ten classes a week with sixteen people on average.
Sallas and his staff continue to promote Queenax with their monthly e-newsletter, email blasts with promotions, and social media. To further promote the programs, they had an open house as well, with a demo night and classes to help try and create more buzz and attention. This gave members an opportunity to try it out before committing.
